This sounds like one of those dangerous questions. What binary are you trying to extract and why?

Hello,

I usually need to extract version of client or module which is included in package.

I’m not customer, but partner, and I don’t want to download two big packages for every avamar version or built. I have also only small testing server and I’m not able to install there all versions of clients. I think there has to be some simple way how to extract files from package…

If the client catalog on the Avamar server isn't updated (i.e. an updated client package has not been installed on the Avamar server), any clients and plug-ins that are newer than the versions in the client catalog on the server will be disabled. If you want to use a newer client with an older server, the client package must be updated on the server first.

Sorry - one other question.  Avamar Support told me that updating the client packages on the server essentially removes the existing, older versions from the server.  In other words: If we want to download and install any more v6.1 clients/proxies, we need to download them from the Avamar server to another location, 'cause the only ones we'll be able to get from the server will be the latest versions.  True?

Thanks again.

Really?  Well, if that's true, that is very important and useful information you've just imparted.  I have a couple of SR's open around our upgrade and no one mentioned this.  Thank you.

But now that leaves me wondering: the EMC Avamar client-server interoperability matrix shows that Avamar clients v7.0.x are interoperable with Avamar Server Version 6.0 and 6.1.   (Same for Avamar VMWare Image proxies.)   So does that only cover the scenario where the site decides to update the client packages on the v6.x servers prior to updating the server itself?

I am trying to do the same thing.  I want to extract an .MSI and an .OVA file from the package but I am not yet ready to update the server with the content.  Had no luck yet.

I have a copy of the Avamar Customer Procedure Generator, but the updates showing in my "Select from the following list" list appear to be the original set of 5 updates, and I haven't found any links to useful docs on how to refresh this list with newer items.  Any ideas, anyone?   TIA.

Does anyone know if this is ever going to change?

I work in a large shop and we do not upgrade then blast all of our servers with new software versions.

We test and retest to make sure it works in our environment.

Getting the install packages right after a grid side upgrade really puts us in a bind.

This might be a few years late, but for what it's worth:

https://www.scribd.com/document/408414076/How-to-Extract-Client-Installers-From-Avp-in-Avamar-Without-Fully-Installing

In short, on a *nix system,

gpg --output package.tar.gz package.avp

, then extract the archive.
