On Windows, the client logs are located in:

C:\Program FIles\avs\var

On Linux, you will find them in:

/usr/local/avamar/var

Other platforms will be similar.

There are a lot of server logs, many of which require extensive experience and training to understand. Could you be more specific about the type of information you're looking for?

What are the logs that we verify on server and client machine for backup failures, GC status/failures, node-offline issues etc.

The vast majority of backup failures can be diagnosed by retrieving the logs through the Avamar Administrator GUI's activity monitor or reviewing the logs directly from the var subdirectory on the client itself.

Information about the status of the server can be found on the Server Management tab, including GC status. You can configure e-mail or SNMP notifications for various events (such as maintenance task completion or failure) through the GUI as well.

You can retrieve maintenance logs (checkpoint, hfscheck, gc) using the "dumpmaintlogs" command and the GSAN itself logs errors in /data01/cur/err.log on each node but in general, you should not be attempting to diagnose server issues such as GC failures or node offline issues yourself. These types of issues are best handled by support.

There is no customer-consumable information in the GSAN logs. In particular, you will not find any information about backups (failed or otherwise) because the GSAN does not record client information in its logs. Nonetheless, the log file is  /data01/cur/gsan.log on each data node. Let me emphasize once again that there is no customer-consumable information in these logs.

what log we verify on the server for backup failures

The server does not log information that would be useful for diagnosing individual client failures. If the whole system is unable to accept backups for any reason, you should contact support immediately.

Thanks for the prompt response. I'm familiar with GUI. But want to find out the log locations. Plz tell me the log file locations of gsan.log, nodeslog and what log we verify on the server for backup failures. I know on client side we need to check /usr/local/var/log/avagent.log.
