Java.rmi.Unknownhost error
Hello,
I installed Avamar Virtual editon Version 5, when I try to connect to it using Administration console i got the below error.
java.rmi.unknownhostException: unknown Host
java.net.unknownhostException: Host name
I installed the Java and the admin console, also I installed it on second machine with same error.
Please advice.
Thanks a lot.
Regards,
Ahmed Salah

Dear All,
I solved the problem by making sure the DNS resolve is fine from Avamar node and network machine by pinging the Avamar node name and IP.
I checked the hosts file (/etc/hosts) using WinSCP and make sure that the name and FQDN and IP are there and correct.
than I checked the corpreate DNS (Ahost record) and I created it after that everything is working like sharm.
Thanks

This is a known limitiation of the Avamar Administrator.
There can only be one RMI address (defined in mcserver.xml or detected automatically if not specified) and that address must resolve to the IP where the utility node (or single node server) can be reached for that environment. For environments where the Avamar Server has many IP addresses defined, the usual workaround is to specify the short name of the utility node as the RMI address and configure DNS or /etc/hosts entries that point the hostname to the correct IP for each client subnet.

I recommend using the HTML5 UI (AUI) instead of the legacy Java UI where possible. If you use features that require the legacy UI, I recommend opening a service request for assistance with this issue.
