Quick Question about Retention Policies...
Right now we are backing up several hundred clients with a retention of 14 days on the backups. We have discovered that we really don't need backups older than a week in most cases. However, let's say we change our retention policy to 7 days, and we then have a server that misses backups 10 days in a row. Will all of that server's backups be eaten by garbage collect? Is there a way to have Avamar keep backups for 7 days and keep the most recent backup if it is older than 7 days?

There is one solution with special script for the Bulk delete or modify snapups, but this is restrict to EMC Support only due to potential risk.
I suggest you may contact EMC Avamar Support to help with your issue.

From my understanding of how it works, yes you would lose all that servers data. But I do agree that support may have a better answer. Just curious, if your grid can hold 14 days but you only need 7, why change the retension policy?
Just a thought.

ok I would say if you have a backup fail for 7 days in a row, you manually go set it to a month extra, or make a advanced retention and keep 7 days and keep a monthly. that extends you out some amount of time. I know no way within the GUI to do this.
