We had backed up a server , but later realised there was some unwanted data we backedup and now want to delete those specific data, fiesystems/folders .as almost we backedup double size than intended .

Can someone guide us how can we delete specific data or any other option

Hello,

In Avamar you cannot expire or delete parts of a backup you will need to delete the full backup.

Instructions for deleting backups are covered in the 7.1  Administration Guide page 117:

Once the backup is deleted you will need to wait for the next maintenance cycle to run for GC to complete and the space to be freed up.

Regards,

Adam

Secure delete will only operate on entire backups. As Adam Clevy stated above, it's not possible to delete part of a backup in Avamar.

Avamar uses content addressed storage. The backup data is stored as a Merkle Tree on the Avamar server, meaning a change to any portion of the tree would require everything above that point in the tree to change. There is no mechanism to rewrite an entire backup in this way.
