Windows 2012 R2 Cluster Node

We are encountering a consistent problem with backing up our cluster nodes.  This is the cluster node itself, not the cluster role.

The problem is re-occurring and we cannot figure out what triggers it, but its happening on multiple clusters.

Symptoms:

• You have a Windows Server 2012/2012R2 host cluster
• One of the node is trying to join the cluster service but is failing

Cause:

• Getting below warnings and errors in cluster log
  • WARN  [DCM] Failed to delete csv share CSV$ status 2310
  • ERR   mscs::MappingManager::DoWeNeedToRename: ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED(5)' because of 'FindFirstFile'
• If there is an access problem to the C:\ClusterStorage location, or if the CSV$ hare cannot be created, the Cluster service will not start correctly.
• Avamar backup was taking handle on the folder C:\ClusterStorage

Resolution:

• Stopped the Avamar backup service and started the cluster service.
• ClusSvc has Full Control permissions over "C:\ClusterStorage" folder.
