Windows 2016 support
Is, or when, will Windows Server 2016 be supported? I don't see it on the Compatibility Matrix yet. And side question to that, when compatibility is upgraded, is it just an update to the host installed client, or both that and an upgrade to the backend code as well normally?

I don't know the answer to the first question offhand. Somebody from Avamar PM may be able to answer this. fominator or leizerbeam?
For the second question, unless otherwise noted in the release notes, an update of the client plugin catalog on the Avamar server and the Avamar software on the client is all that's required as long as the server is no more than two releases back (e.g. a 7.3 client can back up to a 7.1 server but not a 7.0 server). Updating the plugin catalog is a quick and painless procedure and requires no downtime.

For VM's do you just upgrade the proxies? If so in 7.3, with the auto proxy deploy feature, do you just delete the old ones and use the deploy feature to deploy new ones? Or does the auto deploy feature know there's an upgrade and does all that on it's own.

The OS on the guest machine matters a lot less for image level backups. If you're just running image backups and restores, you're unlikely to see any issues with your Win 2016 systems. You may not even need to upgrade the proxies.
FLR may be a different story, however.
For proxy deployment manager, the normal process is to remove the old proxies and push out new ones.
