1 CIFS Share across Multiple File Systems
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to have one CIFS share that spanned multiple file systems within the Celerra.
I have a requirement for a single data share that will have 2 or 3TB of data contained inside. I remember reading somewhere that it was recommended to keep File Systems around the 500GB mark but I am stumped about what to do when I need something bigger than this. I think 500GB is a good value for manageability and for backup's etc.
Would be helpful to hear the Forum's thoughts.
Many Thanks,
Dave.

you can create file systems up to 16 terabytes. I keep my file systems around 2T so that i can back them up in reasonable time. Take a look at documentation about nested file system, that was you can have multiple component file systems presented trough one share. How do you currently run your Celerra backups ?

However, as dynamox suggested, if you are not running too old NAS code (prior to 5.4), you can safely create any file system upto 2 - 3 TB considering the backup/restore time required for larger file system.
Thanks,

I have inherited this environment so still trying to figure out how it has been put together. The backup solution is Networker via NDMP. The library is connected through a Brocade switch.

my opinion - Just take a look how long your current backup of the 500GB file system takes - and if you can live with the backup taking proportionally longer then go with the large file system
