Assigning multiple interfaces to one fsn device

Can i assign multiple interfaces (IP addresses) to one FSN device. For example i have a need to create multiple CIFS servers that need to reside on the same network. So i got my cables pulled, created my fsn device and now i want to assign two different network address to the same device. I know it not an issue on a physical windows 2003 box but how about Celerra. Will Celerra be able to interpret requests for different CIFS servers that use the same fsn device?

Thanks

You are absolutely right - Celerra will interpret request coming to a specific IP Address and treat it for the CIFS server using that IP Address. Although physically all IP addresses are using the same path (FSN Device).

Please ensure while creating CIFS server, you specifically choose the IP Address to be used for that server. (you will get the list of all IP Addresses configured on the device while creating the CIFS server, so select one IP for each CIFS server).

Thanks,

This is very much possible - you can assign multiple interfaces (IP Addresses) on the same device - be it a FSN device or Trunk device or Physical (CGE) device.

Each CIFS server needs to have a Unique IP Address - you can assign multiple IP addresses on the same FSN device and use one IP for each CIFS server.

Also, Celerra support VLAN tagging - you may create multiple IP Addresses on the same device which may belong to different VLAN - simply make the Switch port (ports) as VLAN Trunk port and assign the VLAN number to each Interface that you create on the Celerra. By this way - celerra can take part in multiple VLANs. However, I think, you don't need this now.

Thanks,
Sandip

Thanks Sandip, as you pointed out ..at this point i just need to be able to assign multiple IP addresses to the same device. So just like windows system Celerra will interpret request coming to a specific IP address and send it to appropriate CIFS server ?
