Cannot find /nas/sbin

I have been having problems with my backups, which used to work, and while troubleshooting today I ran across an article saying to make sure that SnapSure is enabled.  So, I SSH'd into my Celerra and tried to issue the necessary commands only to always come back with file not found errors.  It turns out that /nas/sbin is not mounted from what I can tell, so I can't do anything at all.  Also, the web interface on the control station is not coming up, and when I login via SSH I get a big warning saying that NAS Services are not running.

We did have a power outage a couple weeks ago that took everything offline and my CIFS shares never came back online after that.  After a couple hours with support they got my CIFS back up and running, but I guess they didn't get everything sorted out 100%.

How can I mount /nas/sbin, and what can I do after that to get everything up and running properly?  I would really prefer not to have to take my CIFS shares offline at all as I have users actively accessing data all weekend on a high priority project with a certain global impact in a large body of water (dont think I need to say anymore!)

Thanks for any help!

Please try rebooting the CS first.  After the reboot, give it about 10 minutes so that /nas and /nbsnas have a chance to mount and the services restarted.  This will not impact your data.

Before rebooting, please verify that no disks and/or LUNs are trespassed.

nas_storage -c -a (if this comes back as "done", then all is fine.  If this finds faults, run "nas_storage -f id=1" followed by the check once complete"

Hi, I cannot run that command:

[nasadmin@USJFKWPNSC01 /]$ nas_storage -c -a
-bash: nas_storage: command not found

OK.  Let's try rebooting the CS first then.  As root, type "reboot"  We'll give that a try first.

Ok, I rebooted the CS and still get the same error when logging in.  Also, still cannot see /nas/sbin.

EMC NAS Service is not running due to one of the following reasons:
  1. EMC NAS Service is still starting or there was an error during
     service start-up.
Please logout and try logging in after 5 minutes. It can take up to
15 minutes after Control Station boot for EMC NAS Service to start.
If the problem persists after 3 login retries, please reboot the
Control Station and try again. If this message is still displayed,
       contact EMC Customer Support.
  2. EMC NAS Software upgrade is in progress, which required stopping
     the Service temporarily.
Please DO NOT use the administrative interface while EMC NAS Software
upgrade is in progress. EMC NAS Service starts automatically after
       the upgrade finishes.

Until EMC NAS Service starts, administrative commands and interfaces
will not operate.

Could I ask you to please log into Powerlink and open up a Chat Session with the Celerra group.  We can then investigate via WebEx.

your best option really is to work with EMC support

see if they can do a dialing via modem, ESRS or Webex

trying to fix this yourself will only make it worse

Carlos.

I will be sending the CHAT SR to support to call you back.  I'll make sure to mention all we've tried and our findings regarding the control LUNs.  It appears that WebEx has been a little less than cooperative, and the CHAT dropped as well.

Sebby,

If we can try the WebEx one more time that would be best for me.  I am going to have to leave and will not be available to work on this later on today.  My wife's laptop was the culprit for everything dying a second ago.  I will launch the next WebEx session from one of our servers, which should be more stable, not to mention the internet connection is better from there as well.

Hi there,

I know this discussion's relatively old.

But I'm just wondering how this issue ended/solved, since now i'm facing a kind of same issue....

Any replys?

Best.

See if /nas is mounted – if not you also should have gotten a warning about NAS services not started when logging in as nasadmin

If NAS services aren’t running reboot the control station.

If that doesn’t help reboot the complete system or open a case with EMC support

What do you mean ?

January 25th, 2012 02:00

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but as nobody else has asked it I thought I'd bring it up...

Do you run a primary/secondary CS configuration? If so, has your secondary CS taken over resposibility as anything under /nas can only be mounted on one CS at a time (e.g. /nas/bin and /nas/sbin).

Hi,

Do you mean that there is control station  failover ?

Thanks

Vanitha

That's exactly what I'm suggesting... if /nas/sbin isn't on the primary control station - if there's a secondary one, is it there instead?

It would certainly fit in the context of a power failure as described above..
