Celerra Backup Performance

Backup and restores over the network seem to be a lot slower than when we were using Dell servers. Is there anything we can do to improve performance or would Tape backup be better?

It's a backup agent. Normally we would run the agent on the server but since we can't do that on the Celerra the backups and restores have to be done using the CIFS share.

what kind of throughput are you getting? Is everything 1G on the network data path ? Network settings are correct (duplex mode ..etc)

in terms of performance using NDMP is your best choice

After some schools of hard knocks... be sure to engage your backup software vendor and explore all of your options.

NDMP might be faster but depending on your software may throw some limitations on how you perform restores and such.

We will have to change how we restore files. No longer will our backup team be able to point and click to restore a file or folder. They have to know the absolute path and then restore, all via CLI. Not fun.

when you run your ndmp backups run it with toc=yes option:

backup node SERVER_2 /your_filesystem1, /your_filesystem2 mode=full toc=yes

i run this from TSM admin scheduler.
