There are many things to consider, please check Knowledgebase emc62326 for a start.
You need to determine the bottleneck in your environment, maybe increasing threads is an option.
"The number of files scanned at one time will be determined by the number of agent threads, Data Mover VC threads, and the number of requests the AV engine can handle at one time."

Hi Karl,
We are also facing the issue with CAVA servers going off line and coming online frequently.
We are using Mecafee 8.8 and CAVA 4.9.3 and 64 bit Windows serevrs as a AV servers
We have logged a case with EMC and worked with them, they have suggested as fallows.
The McAfee "McShield" service requires a domain user account that has both local administrator and EMC virus-checking rights.
We tried to give the same service account to "McShied, which we are using for the CAVA service. We got the below error.
"

Can someone please address this erlierst.
Do we needd seperate servcie account for McShiled service to avoid the above error. Kindly confirm and Thanks so much in advance for your help.
