Does Celerra w/ Dart 5.5 work with vSphere Server?

My Celerra is currently running dart 5.5 code.  I've opened a service request with EMC to help update to 5.6.  It may be awhile before this happens.  In the mean time, i'm anxious to get a new VMWare vSphere (ESX 4) server up.  I currently have three ESX 3.5 servers connected via iSCSI to my Celerra and they're sharing two 500Gb LUNs.

The VMWare hardware compatibility matrix states Celerra w/ dart 5.6 is certified to work with vSphere. I have a hunch that a vSphere server will work with my existing Celerra. Do you think it's better to wait until after i update my Celerra before I add a vSphere server or try and see if it works with the existing dart code?

Your assistance is appreciated, thank you.

i am always concerned with supportability, especially in production environment. It may works just fine but if you start having issues EMC support most likely will turn you away because it's listed as not supported configuration.

It most probably will work - but I would also suggest to stick to the compability matrix

You might want to also consider NFS - esp. if you are interested in snapshots and deduplication there is going to be something interesting very soon :-)

dedupe v2 , support for deduping file systems with vmdk files ? We knew that

There's a ton of good information on Chad's virtualgeek blog - for example

Thank you for your assistance.  I went with the supported version of VMWare ESX server and it's working great. I've got techs scheduled for next week to come run health checks on my Celerra to begin the update process.
