Failed add second CX with NS500G

Question

We are in need of 2TB LUN additional devices from CX4-240 (Flare 6.29) to our NS500G (5.5.33) running a gateway configuration, booting from CX700 (Flare 6.26).

As Peter mentioned, Rel 29 Support with DART Code 5.6.47 was by mistake not included in the E-lab support matrix - it will be corrected. But DART Code 5.6.47 is fully tested and supported with Rel 29 Flare code.

I am sure local EMC team will guide and suggest you with the upgrade path and process as you plan to upgrade the NAS code.

Hi,

welcome to the forum.

What you are seeing is because setup_clariion isnt designed for gateway systems - its only used for NS Integrated models.

Assuming that your CX3-240 is already "known" to your gateway - i.e. you are already using LUNs from it on that Celerra you need to:

- configure your LUNs using NaviSphere according to the guidelines mentioned in Powerlink
Home > Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > Celerra Tools > NS-G2 Gateway
-> Configure the Celerra - > Configure additional storage ....

NOTE: pay partiticulary attention to setting the HLU - the default will NOT work with Celerra

- then either use the Rescan button in Celerra Manager GUI or server_devconfig -c -s -a in the CLI to discover them

Rainer, i run server_devconfig -c -s -a , but still can't new CX4, rescan from celerra manager, i tried reboot all data mover also. i view only cx700 (old)

How did you carve out your 2TB LUN ? How many disks in your raid group ?  If you run 'nas_storage -l' do you see CX4 in the list ?

I create 920GB x 2 Lun, Create RG 4+1 with FC Diskwith HLU = 25

so CX4 is zoned to NS500G right ? What failover mode did you use ? Failover mode should be 0, arraycommpath should be 0.

Is is this a NEW storage system for this Celerra gateway - i.e. it has never been properly added to the Celerra ??

If yes you need to work with your local EMC technical support - they will make sure that:

- firmware is compatible

- zoning

- storagegroup

- register the blade ports

- security is setup and the login/password is configured on the Celerra

- nas_storage check works

is properly setup. Adding an additional strorage system to a gateway isnt a customer operation so you wont find the correct documentation.

Hi,

I understand here the issue is system compatibility - CX4 CLARiiON array can not be added to a Celerra running 5.5.33 code. I suspect, you need the DART Code for your NS500 Gateway and CX4 array (with Flare 28 i.e. 6.28 flare on CLARiiON) is 5.6.43. CX4 array running Flare 29 (6.29) code is only supported with DART (NAS) Code 5.6.47.

So, it is quite obvious you can not see the CX4 LUNs on the NS500 running 5.5.33 code.

As Rainer had already suggested, please get in touch with the local EMC Team or local support person to help and guide you accordingly.

Please take a look in the EMC Support Matrix by yourself. NS500G is able to run all new 5.5 and 5.6 NAS Codes. In special NAS 5.6.47 f.e. in combination with CX4 and Flare 28 (or CX600 and Flare 19). Flare 29 is still not listed in the eLab Navigator.
