migrate cifs

hi , we need to migrate cifs servers from ns500 to ns40 . we don't use vdm . What is the best way ? Thank you .

celerra replicator if you are licensed and both target and source are on the same dart level (5.5 or 5.6)

thanks for your responce we have v2 replicator license in ns40 and ns500. They have dart 5.6 . Do we need to configure vdm ? if we configure fs replication between celerra is it enough ?

since CIFS server is not part of VDM you will not be able to replicate things such as share names, local accounts, but that could be re-created once you are on NS40. You can create VDM and new file system on NS40 and replicate just the file system from NS500 and then manually/script re-create share names.

we don't have local user accounts but we need to keep ntfs permission at the destination celerra. Do we need to configure vdm ?

i would configure VDM on NS40. If later on you decide to setup replication to another Celerra, all configuration will be encapsulated into VDM. It's also easier to grant rights to C$ of VDM versus C$ on physical datamover. NTFS permissions will stay intact as they reside on the file system itself.
