Moving a file system between datamovers using Dart 5.5 (ie V1 replication)

Sirs

I need to move a VDM to a spare data mover. We are running Dart 5.5 with no plans to upgrade (the hardware goes end of life at the end of the year).

Looking at the 'Configuring Virtual Data Movers for Celerra release 5.6' it explicitly covers moving a VDM with replication by pausing replication on the file system(s) and VDM, then pushing it across with;

nas_server -vdm -move

However this relies on the use of an interconnect, which is only supported in V2 replicator. The documentation explicitly states to check an interconnect is configured on the new data mover.

Now, if i refer to the v5.5 documentation , it covers how to move a VDM between datamovers. Again using;

nas_server -vdm -move

But there is no mention at all of how to handle replicated file systems or if indeed this is even supported. Does anyone have experience of this?  Ive no idea if this command will move source and destination VDMs or just source. And if to do this i need to suspend replication on the VDM and related file systems.

Failing this being an option i presume i would have to break the replication. Move the live VDM and re-establish the replication and resync (all 6TB of it) across the WAN. Yuch....

Regards

just try it - if it doenst like it it wont let you do it

just pause the replication of the data file systems and the VDM

RepV1 has been a while ago - I dont remember if you had to explicitly create an interconnect

There are no Interconnects in NAS 5.5, so "no" on that point.

Thanks gents. At least i didnt get a 'no, you cant'.

I think i will try to find time to set up a test vdm with replication and try to push it across with the replication paused and see what goes bang..
