NDMP Connection to Switch

Hello All ,

I am having a problem in connecting the NAS to my SAN switches .I have done earlier twice but its  new problem i encountered.

Its a NS480  with 2 sides , one acting as primary other as secondary .

I am connecting AUX0 and AUX1 of the primary blade to the SAN switches , and when i try doing this GREEN light lits on the NAS but nothing comes on the switch end.At one point it did come but when i was trying to get the other one up and did a swap  , the one working also went down. Now , i have tried all the possibilities but not able to get any thing up on the switches .

Only on the NAS side A GREEN lights , On the BLADE side NO lights( switch side) . Note , the port 3/24 was showin up at one time .

I have connected the AUX 0,1 with FC modules goin to switches. Can any one please help me troubleshoot this ?

The Cable looks good, also i have tried using other ports as well.

Thanks for you time !

Hello all I got rid of the error , this required both primary and secondary DM reboot .thanks again to Dynamox .

The exact cause is unknown ,however. I was able to successfully run a backup of the File system of 188GB . But is stopped after a minute with the following error:

Can some one please shed some light on the error.

Little insight: I have zoned the Aux to 4 IBM tape drives and NDMP is running on Netbackup.

For some strange reason this FS size it showing up as ~365 GB ,which should not be the case.

can you try backing up a small test file system (you might have to manually  mount the tape in the drive)

server_archive server_2 -w -f /dev/c80t0l0 -J /root_vdm_1/testfs

Can you check, the NDMP host you use are on NIC bonding? Only one type of bonding is supported for NDMP backup with Celerra. Remove bonding and use with a single NIC and try. We had some what similar issue backing up large file systems and faced disconnects and some times Tape Drives also use to go offline.

Hi Narahari,

I am using only cge3 for the NDMP so virtual device configured per se. NIC ( cge3 ) connected to switch .

The error I am getting is :

2011-07-26 12:42:59: NDMP: 4: Got stat buffer with data pointer=NULL at 1557, abort=1

2011-07-26 12:42:59: NDMP: 4: Thread nasa00 cifs_ea new count: 1038034, delete count: 1038034, freeListCount: 128

2011-07-26 12:44:19: NDMP: 3: Session 067 (thread ndmp067) NdmpdMover::connect: connect error: Connection timed out

2011-07-26 12:47:03: NDMP: 3: Session 074 (thread ndmp074) Illegal CDB length (8) for TAPE_EXECUTE_CDB request for drive c48t0l0

2011-07-27 00:16:47: SVFS: 6: D244185_0: allocDataBlock: transition index state

EMC is saying this is a network issue , I have checked with Network guy and nothing is in between.

Symantec is saying

The NDMP logs are indicating a hardware SCSI issue.

From the NDMP logs it appears that the CDB length is set to 8.
Legal values are 6, 10, 12. Is this something needed to be changed from Celerra >

Need experts opinion please.  Thanks for reading
