Troubleshooting Java for Unisphere web-based client

Question

In the process of troubleshooting an issue where Unisphere user interface is not starting in Internet Explorer 11 under Windows 7x64 I have found a number of threads on the forum with similar questions. Before describing a specific issue which I have not resolved here is an outline of solutions an suggestions I could find on the forum. I am asking for additional troubleshooting and diagnostic steps that can be applied to debug Unisphere - Browser - Java issues. Here is an incomplete list of discussion threads that I could find. Unisphere jars manifest does not conform with the latest Java security requirements (link) Insufficient memory to run Unisphere (link) Not using the latest standalone Unisphere client (link) Unisphere on Windows 8 x64 (link) Sometimes even following the instructions in these threads does not help to gain access to Unisphere could you share tips on troubleshooting Java in web browsers to run Unisphere. 1. Unisphere jars manifest does not conform with the latest Oracle security requirements Java application fails to load due to the absence of Permissions attribute in the manifest file of one of the Unisphere jars.This can be observed with Java 7 update 51. The problem shows when after loading Java for some time Internet Explorer shows a blank window with a small red message 'Error click for details' If you click on this you get a message box detailing the manifest issue 'Missing required Permissions manifest attribute in main jar' In the latest version of Java for Windows this can be resolved by adding the Control station to the Exception Site List in the Security tab of the Configure Java application. Other suggestions for this issue are to turn off certificate revocation checks in the Advanced tab. This solution applies for earlier versions of Java and was suggested in one of the discussions this forum Unable to open VNX Unisphere page with IE8 Windows 7 64. 2. Insufficient memory to run Unisphere This was reported at least once on the forum (Unisphere VNX Client 1.3.0.1 JRE error) and shows up with the same 'Error. Click for details' notification. The solution provided in the discussion is to increase the size of Java memory allocation pool by adding -Xmx512m to the list of Java Runtime parameters in the Java tab of the Configure Java dialog. 3. Not using the latest version of the standalone Unisphere client The older versions of the client may not start with the latest versions of the Java Runtime without leaving any notice in Java Console (Unisphere Client problems and Java). The solution is basically to download the latest version from EMC support downloads: Search EMC Downloads 4. Unisphere on Windows 8 x64 It is always good to try browsers other than Internet Explorer and make sure that on a 64-bit system both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of Java Runtime Environment are installed (How to access Unisphere in Windows 8.1?). Also sometimes helpful information may be obtained by looking at the Java console. It may not show by default but there is a handy official instruction that shows how to make sure that Java console is running (How do I enable and view the Java Console?).
