centera client best practise

Hi, Our centera client supports saving and retrieving files to/from  Centera.  So  our customer can use this functionality to save and retrieve generated files from our product. As for deletion,  do you think it is better to let our client do the deleting of the clip, instead of let the customer do the deletion with another Centera client, or it doesn't matter -- it can be done either ways. By the way, can two appllications(exe files) using the same pea file?

Hi Rui

Multiple applications can use the same pea. You could also create a second profile in the same pool for your second application. If they have access to the same database this might be enough. as the clips are stored in the same pool they will also see them both.

I personally thing that the user should initiate the deletion and your client then either delete on it's own or push the delete request to the server part of the application or the second application. I would make sure the user initiates the delete. If you have strict policies the application could also perform some kind of auto-delete, only if your data needs to be removed after a certain time.

In case you need to recover from accidental deletions please consider DelayedDeletes and AdvancedRecovery. Users deleting data will at some point result in the fact that something has been deleted that they didn't want.

Best regards, Holger
