Anyone have any sample reports from Navisphere Analyzer dump files?

OK, so I am creating NAR files every 24 hours and I can dump 7 days worth of data to a CSV file. What I need to know now is, what to do with all that data. Management is looking for a report to show them how the array is performing. I know I need to focus on compenent utilization, read and write size, total throughput, queue length, response time, etc, but what I do not know is how to take the data from the CSV and graph it. What fields/columns should I focus on?

I do something very similar with CSV files I create on our Celerra Performance. You can use perl and the gdgraph module to graph a csv very easily. There are a few perl packages gdgraph depends on. I don't remember, but they should be easy to find.

I can assist if you have any specific questions.

If you have ECC WLA data for clariions (hopefully with 2 or 5 min interval), I can provide performance profiling report for clariion arrays. If you only have the nar file data in exported format, I can do the same but I am still working on some of the toolset for it. Let me know if interested. http://www.interscapetech.com.

I would recommend that you take one of the NAR files and open it Navisphere - go to the on-line HELP feature in Navisphere and look for the Topic "Analyzing storage-system performance using Analyzer" - there is a lot of good information about using Analyzer. Once you start looking at the NAR files, you can get an idea of where you want to look.

If you're going to be charting performance over time (to see if usage is changing with time), you can look at the Storage Processors first [Utilization, Queue Length, Response Time, IOPS (balance between SP's), Bandwidth, Dirty Pages], then look at the LUNs (same parameters). If you see issues, then you can look deeper into the disks.

If you just want a quick report, SP Utilization, IOPS and Bandwidth are simple metrics, add Response times and Dirty Pages for a more complete overview - watch these over time.

Be aware that running Analyzer all the time "could" have an impact on performance - if this is just for reporting trends, you should probably use a longer Archive Interval than 600 seconds. Look at your current SP Utilization - if it's already over 50% most of the time, you probably should set the archive interval to more than 600 seconds.

I assume by IOPS you mean Total Throughput?

Throughput = IOPS = IO/sec
Bandwidth = MB/s
