The "CLARiiON Best Practices for Fibre Channel Storage" whitepaper (search-in-title on Powerlink) provides various configuration recommendations, including cache sizes. In the current edition of the document (updated through Release 26) see page 31.

There's a maximum setting for the write cache of 3GB, so that would leave you (8 - 3 - Flare operating System) for read cache. I would set write cache to the max, since it also functions as read cache for data that just as been written.

I think you will need 800MB for Flare, 3GB write cache and the remainder for read cache, which is 4.2GB, maybe a bit less.

With the CX 3_80 you should set write cache to its maximum 3072MB and assign all remaining memory to read cache.

If you are seeing performance issues please detail whereabouts they are occuring.

Some of the common performance gotcha's are

1. Excessive trespassing
2. ATA raidgroup layout
3. Write cache not set to maximum
