When SPA became unreachable and everything trespassed over to SPB, your host should have been ok if your zoning was correct.   I think you need to check your zoning.  each host should be zoned to both SPA & SPB. This way when one SP goes down, it has the alternate path to your data.

Maybe you can submit a screen shot of your connectivity status window with the hosts you are having expanded.

Now for you issue with SPA, you may want to open a ticket with support.  Does it show SPA as unmanaged?  can you right click it in the GUI and select properties and get any info from it?

Hello Kenn,

Zoning is OK , Host can see and access the lun through SP "B".

But I cannot see data...any Idea why I cannot see data after change the ownership of Storage processor.

You should check your SPa hardware,

Can you see if there is any lighting in it?

Have you try to unplug it and plug it back?

I had it once and it was due to a hardware failure once I've replaced the SP it all came back to normal.

You can also try to physically switched between the SPs and see if it still SPa down (but it will require down time)

khaleelpasha, just so I understand your situation:

1) You originally mentioned that SP "A" and luns assigned to it became inaccessible from the host(s).

out-of-band connection/Navisphere Manager interface) which is discrete and segregated from the in-band connectivity.

2) You manually(?) changed the ownership to SP "B" but could not view the data

a) What is the host(s) multi-path/fail-over environment: ESX NMP (can only be 3.5 to your CX300), EMC PowerPath on Windows/Unix, OS native?  While we are reviewing the host configuration, we should also verify that the Navisphere host registration fail-over mode is set properly.

b) You had verified the zoning and the paths from the CLARiiON's perspective, can you confirm the host sees those paths.  For example:

ESX: esxcfg-mpath -l (or in the GUI where you can "manage/view paths")
PowerPath: powermt display dev=all

Native (Linux): /sbin/multipath -v2/-v3
... etc.

c) If the output from above suggests there are missing paths, can you verify that they are associated with the registered host (which is also a member of the appropriate storage group)?

- Expand the appropriate "Storage Group" and then "Hosts"

- Right click on the registered host

- Select "Connectivity Status"

- Review the list of initiator records

Please note that when a host is in a storage group and new paths are registered, they are not automatically associated with the host.  To update it, there are three options:

a) Remove host from storage group and readd.

Of course, the host temporarily loses access to the LUN and that outage is as fast as you can remove/add the host

b) Select "Reconnect" from "Connectivity Status" when navigated to as listed above

We do advertise this as non-disruptive from the CLARiiON's perspective, but to absolutely verify that you only touch the new paths...

c) From "Engineering Mode"

- right-click on the Storage Group and select "Connect Hosts"

- From the "Hosts" tab you will see an "Advanced" button

- Click the "Advanced button, and you will see for each host there are checkboxes next to each registered path; simply check any non-associated paths to update the host registration

4) A few other miscellaneous things to review:

Hi Christopher,

First of all I would like to pay thanks.

I already switch the luns to another SP ownership manually.

I can access the Luns but without data.

In windows shows the status 100% free disk.

Why my data not shows ? how can I access my data.

If you are on the host and click the drive associated with the LUN and there is no data, it sounds like you will need to restore from a backup.  I have never seen or heard of this.

When you do "properties" on that drive inside Windows, does it show the total and free size as the same?

Since it sounds like it is down already, maybe you can remove that lun from the storage group and add it back in and see if your data shows back up.  I am assuming this is a windows machine since you hvaent specified that yet.
