EMC VNX CX4-120 Management Server not working

Hello everyone

We took back an CX4-120 from a customer site. Our hardware technician did a restore of the image which was located already on the system (via CLI).

But since then we are not able to ping the IP address of any component except of the service port 128.221.2.250! Could if be that the configuration is lost due to this action?

We setuped an PPP connection by serial connection and we received an IP address and are able to connect by SSH to 192.168.1.1 also the login is working fine.

But opening 192.168.1.1/setup in a browser is not working so I've checked naviseccli -getagent and it tells me the management service is not working. I tried then tu shutdown both SPs by navseccli -h -rebootSP command but it tells me the SP is not reachable (I assume this action also requires that the management service is running).

At the end we powerd down the system by the phyiscal buttons and booted it again but the same issue like before. Does anyone of you guys have an idea how to bring up the management service again????

Thank you so much

Somethings mucked up. I would try to back revision it:

1. Reboot SPs to DDBS utility menu.

2. Enter Engineer mode, then choose "Invalidate Data Directory". This option will delete the array configuration.

3. Re-image SPs boot partition if need, now the array need to be initiated again.

Additionally make sure that you are using a RS232 cable to dial into the SP via PPP connection.

Hello there

Thank you very much for this information. How to access the engineering mode by CLI? Is this menu guided or do we need to type in certain commands?

If yes, could you post this commands?

Thank you very much and all the best

If agent is not starting then you will not be able to connect to the flare (which is probably not starting also). There are a couple of support-only procedures that support can run on the SP's using the service ports to capture the boot up process and see where it's not working.

If you're a Partner you should be able to able to run the procedure generator to create the procedure for this.
