Interpreting the FLARE code

Folks,

I need help interpreting the FLARE code. What do these numbers mean after each dot. Like in the following example, what is the difference between these two codes. What is in-family and out-of-family code upgrade:

2.26.300.5.014 &

4.28.0.5.706

Thanks a ton.

ok let me see if i can give this one a shot.  im sure the EMC guys will come back with some nice table..

lets take 2.26.300.5.014

2  This is for the CX series.  your case a CX.  if you had a CX3, this would be 3

26  This is the release version of FLARE

300  This is the actaul CX model.  CX300.  if you had a CX700, then this would be 700

5  Means general release.  you might see some "6" out there and i have been told these are special codes

014  This is the patch level of the FLARE Release code.

4  CX4 series

28  Release 28

0  All release 28 FLARE codes work for every model.  no more model dependent code.  This goes for R29 and R30

5  General release

706  again.  the patch level within release 28

An in family upgrade would be going from R26 .006 to let say 014   An out of family upgrade would be to go from R24 to R26 or R28 to either R29 or 30.

Does this help?

2.26.300.5.014 means it's family 2 (CX300/500/700), Flare 26, 5 (no idea), patch 014

4.28.0.5.706 means it's family 4 (CX4-120/240/480/960), Flare 28, 0 (meaningless), 5 (no idea), patch 706

So for an upgrade from 2.something to 4.something, you meed to upgrade your CX300 to a CX4-120 as well. Family code corresponds with hardware generation.
