Is CX3-10C active/passive?

Hi,

Is CX3-10C backend to integrated NS20 in active/passive configuration? If so why does EMC recommend having LUNs binding in pairs with load balancing each SP specifically for LUNs that will be added to celerra data movers.

The storage processors (SP) on the backend CX3 are not active passive - but they are both active. However, one LUN is owned and served by one SP at a time.

The data movers (DM) on the NS20 are by default configured in Active/Passive configuration - where one data mover is standby to the other.

Hope this clarifies your doubt.

it recommends to create two LUNs per raid group and assign one lun to SPA and one lun to SPB to spread the load evenly between the SPs for fibre drives. For ATA drives create two LUNs per raid group but assign both LUNs to the same SP. Check out Celerra documentation for more details

As I mentioned, one LUN is owned and served by one SP at a given time - that might have been mentioned as active/passive.

However, nice to see that my explanation helped. Please mark the post as "Correct" and/or "Helpful" if applicable for any future reference.

Thanks,

I was going through some vmware documentation and read that EMC Clariion SPs are always in active/passive config where as symetrix only offers active/active config.

Thanks for clarifying

On a Clariion a single LUN can only "belong" to 1 SP, so either SPA or SPB, so seen from a Storage Processor perspective, it's an active/passive machine.
In a Symmetrix a LUN can "belong" to multiple FA ports and therefore the LUN is active/active on all ports it's mapped to.

Since Flare 26 code the Clariion does offer some sort of active/active: ALUA
Asymmetrix Logical Unit Access.

Look at page 42 in "White Paper: EMC CLARiiON Best Practices for Fibre Channel Storage: FLARE Release 26 Firmware Update - Best Practices Planning"
