Probably best to open a case with EMC - what array and what flare release and what raid group were you using? Was there sufficient space in raid group? Were you using the GUI or CLI? If CLI, what version of CLI and what Operating System on host?

This is a CX4/960 with flare code 30 update 512.  We contacted support and they had us reboot each SP.

Everything works now.  So you gotta love all the bugs.

Please follow the primus as shown below.

The following is a Primus(R) eServer solution:

ID: emc266587
Domain: EMC1
Solution Class: 3.X Compatibility

Fact       Product: CLARiiON CX4 Series

Fact       EMC Firmware: FLARE Release 30

Fact       EMC Firmware: FLARE Release 29

Fact       EMC SW: Virtual Provisioning/Pool-based LUNs

Fact       EMC SW: Unisphere

Symptom    Error message: Could not complete operation Create LU due to 0xe12d810a

Symptom    MLU  712d8106 Could not complete operation Create LU due to 0xe12d810a. Internal information only - Operation Status: 0xe12d810a, Commit Status: 0x0.

Symptom    NaviCimom 712d810a Failing Command: Create LUN

Symptom

This configuration exceeds the array's Safe Operating Capacity, meaning that a storage processor (SP) could run out of CBFS memory and panic.

Change     Customer binding thin LUN on a thin pool.

Change     Customer expanding  a thin pool.

Fix

The issue is fixed  in  CX4-Bundle-04.30.000.5.522.pbu.

Follow the upgrade path based on the two scenarios outlined in emc263403.

This EPC enabler can be obtained by contacting Technical Support and citing this solution ID (emc263403). EMC Technical Support Level 2 personnel can download  from the Patches page of the EMC Services Partner Web via Powerlink.  Access to enablers Hotfixes is restricted.  If you believe that you should have access to this area, send an email to CLARiiONType3PatchAccess@emc.com for assistance.

Note       0x712D810A --> MLU_EXECUTIVE_ERROR_OPERATION_WOULD_EXCEED_SAFE_OPERATING_CAPACITY - This error means that the attempted creation  of a pool LUN was not allowed because it would have left the array operating over its safe operating capacity.

Note       A clean-up operation will be required if expansion was started and then failed with "Could not complete operation Create LU due to 0xe12d810a" error. Escalate to TS2/Engineering.
