Merging NAZ files

I have a bunch of NAZ files that I've gotten from several CLARiiON arrays.  Working on a storage consolidation design.

How might I go about merging the NAZ files from a single array into a single NAR file?  I know how to do it within the Analyzer GUI, but is there an easier/faster way?

Thanks,

Eric

First, you can only merge SPA to SPA or SPB to SPB from the same array.

Second, depending on the flare version of the array, you can use naviseccli commands to merge NAZ files - you will not get NAR files. See the Navisphere Analyzer CLI manual for the specific commands. You should use the same version of the array that producted the NAZ files.

But you can merge NAZ files and later decrypt them ?

Only merge SPA to SPA or SPB to SPB. Do not merger SPA to SPB

Do I need to load both nar files in Analyzer from SPA and SPB or is either one suffucient to get the whole performance picture ?

Thanks Glen. I failed to see that you can load 2 NARs into Analyzer at the same time; I thought you could only load 1, which would explain the “need” to merge SPA and SPB NARs together. My mistake.

Forgot to answer your question about NAZ files - you can not merge NAZ files.

Also, the NAZ/NAR file from a single SP will contain performance data for all objects across both SPs. You do not need to look at archives from both SPs to get performance information for an entire array.

Thanks, I already noticed that both files are very much alike, but not equal though ! I don't see any benefit in choosing one over the other, either one is ok indeed

Thanks Glen,

I'm now building my own set of scripts that will collect whatever NA? is on an array, decrypt if possible and merge them all together.

One last question: how long will NAR/NAZ files exist on an array ? I pulled some multi year old files from one of my arrays earlier this week. When will those dissappear ? Or do I need to erase them manually ?

The difference between the two files as far as I know is that there may be certain data that is averaged differently if it came from the peer SP. But I don’t remember all of the specifics.

When you start analyzer, it first starts SPA, then SPB - the time difference is small. The data in each file should be very similar. It will get off if you create a NAR manually on SPA and not on SPB at the same time.
