Navi Host Agent Question

I know I will be labeled a heritic for asking, but do I really "must install" the Navisphere Server Utility or Host Agent on each server connected via iSCSI IP ports on a AX4i? The doc says so, but we've been running several Windows and AIX hosts for several years on a CX700 without adding Host Agents. I know I have to regisger them manually and that I don't get the file system info that the Agent provides, but we let the server OS handle the management of the LUNs, we just provision. Politically (county gov't!!) it is best to leave agents off client servers if possible (no good explanation, just the way it is.)

Also, I'm unclear as to Powerpath on these IP connected hosts. Is the licensed version necessary or just SE?

Getting our first AX4i in in a couple weeks and probably will have other rookie questions.

TIA,

When you use the server utility to connect to an iSCSI array from a Windows server, it will also set the "TCP delayed ACK" on the Windows host to the correct setting - this is a performance issue. If you manually connect you need to make this change - see Knowledgebase article emc150702.
