Hi ,

When you power up the array , Can you let us know the status of the SPB boot sequence please ..., Please refer the below mentioned steps for the SP boot sequence.., Let us know where is the booting was stuck....

SP Boot Sequence

  1. 1.  At initial power-up, the Power LED will be on and the Fault LED will be off while the power supplies and the voltages on the SP stabilizes.

  1. 2. The first stage in the SP boot sequence is the BIOS test. This is indicated by the Power LED on and the Fault LED blinking at a rate of once every 4 seconds (.25 Hz).

  1. 3. The second stage in the SP boot sequence is the SP Power On Self-Test (POST). This is indicated by the Power LED on and the Fault LED blinking at a rate of once a second (1 Hz). Extended POST checks every PROM checksum on the array.

  1. 4. The third stage in the SP boot sequence is the OS boot and driver load. This is indicated by the Power LED on and the Fault LED blinking at the rate of 4 times a second (4 Hz).

  1. 5. Pushing the Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI) button will cause a panic dump of memory and reboot the SPs. This should only be performed at the request of EMC Engineering or Tech Support 2. The Fault LED will blink at twice a second (2 Hz) after the NMI button is pushed.

  1. 6. The FC Link LEDs will be GREEN if running at 1Gb/sec or 2Gb/sec. They will be BLUE if the speed is 4Gb/sec. For an invalid signal—caused by a poor connection, bad cable, or a bad/unsupported SFP—the FC Link LEDs will flash BLUE/GREEN.

SPA boots fine and responds normally, I can access with navisphere GUI.

SPB does not boot, does not ping and is not accessable. The GUI on SPA indicates it is not present.

Hi ,

If the boot is stuck in  BIOS state , then it should be hardware failure.., The SPB may be faulted and needs a replacement….

What do you say Rupal….?

If I buy replacement SP, will it work properly if I just slide it in or is other config required?

Is there any "magic" as to how the SP's talk to eachother or if SPA sees a different SPB serial?

Are SPA and SPB identical except for the slot they are plugged into?

Unit is not under maint, and I probably cant afford maint or 3rd party service.

SPB appears to have power LED on and amber fault LED is blinking about once per 3-4 seconds. This is probably the BIOS based on your description of the sequence.

Try reseating the SP B. If it comes up then fine otherwise it faulted. You can go ahead with renew contract and get it replaced/ you can purchase the same separately.

Hmmm...No magic can happen if the SP is faulted (Hardware failure). Even when you reseated the SP dint come up?

The SP seems to be clearly faulted. Only a replacemnet can help!!!!

Emc will charge for it!!!!

Thanks

Ok, but is there anything special or unique about the replacement part?

Will any CX3-10c SP work? How will the old SPA know there is a new SPB and how to talk to it?

Is there any difference between a SPA and a SPB part?

Or, is this nothing more than a generic unit with all the details stored on the vault drives?

Also, when  I opened up the SP itself, I noticed there were 3 unused DIMM slots. If I add matching DIMM's, will the SP be able to use them or is it hardwired to cap at 1Gb RAM?

Its a Faulted part that you have currently means once you return it to EMC it will checked in lab where is the issue. Only it can be checked by EMC and you need a fresh one for your unit as once you get a healthy one the array will detect the same and will reboot.

I dont think the DIMM part will help in your case

Hope you got it this time

Thanks

Rupal
