Question about using ISC with an Oracle db (multiple LUN's)

Is consistency between LUN's an issue when using incremental SAN Copy ?

I have a CX3-20F with an HP-UX attached to it. This host has 9 LUN's on the Clariion and all LUN's should be copied to another Clariion about 30 km away.

I'm thinking about ISC, but I'm worried about consistency. The CX3-20F can only snap 8 LUN's at the same time (4 per SP), but can I manipulate ISC in the same way ?

I'm confused now. I read that a CX3-20F can have
- 8 Sessions
- 50 LUN's per session
- 8 incremental sessions per source

Does this mean I can copy let's say 25 LUN's at the same time ? Is the data on the target LUN's consistent when the copy process is done ? I mean, when I start a session with 25 LUN's in it, is the point in time moment to which all data is being copied consistent accross all LUN's ?

I hope you know what I mean....

The way I see it op page 2-4 of "EMC SAN Copy for Navisphere
ADMINISTRATOR¿S GUIDE
P/N 069-001188
REV A07", is that there indeed can be as many as 50 source LUN's in each session.

Remains only the question: will the "mark" command issue a consistent snap over all LUN's ?

i see what you mean ..i just searched through the SAN Copy command line reference and can't find an option for consistently splitting multiple LUNs at the same time. That's what you are after right ? For CX's version of "-consistent" that we have in timefinder.

Rob ..i just looked at white paper "EMC Clariion Database Storage Solutions:Migrating an Oracle Database to the EMC Clariion CX3 UltraScale Series Using SAN Copy", they have 7 LUNs that need to be migrated. If you look on page 12 they talk about needing 7 sessions for 7 source LUNs, so that means that on CX3-20 you can only do 8 LUNs at a time ?

probably need to script something where oracle is put into hot backup mode, you start SAN copy sessions for all source LUNs, you mark source LUNs and take oracle out of hot backup mode. If i am understating this correctly, as soon as you start your san copy session ..a point in time copy is taken of the source lun and that's what get's replicated to the target lun so you don't need to wait for san copy to finished copying and can go ahead and mark them right then.
