Re-create Raid 1+0 to Raid5

Hi

I would like to re-create a few RG from 1+0 to Raid5. The data can be destroyed as it's no longer required.
Total size is 3875GB. Out of this 2095GB will be allocated to NAS and 1780GB will be allocated among 2 Solaris servers.

The Raid1+0 config is 6X66GB. So if im going to create on a Raid5, will it be 5+1?

for disks you are going to use for Celerra ..remember that you have to use supported RAID types, take a look here:

I have some pre-existing disks on the NAS. I would like to add more disks to the NAS. My Clariion is a CX700 and NAS a NS702G.

Total how many and what type of disks are you going to use for NAS? I understand you are planning for RAID 5 for the NAS.
Also, is the NAS existing or new? If existing what is the version of NAS code and the version of Flare on the CX700?

One more point - for Non-Celerra Hosts - the RAID 5 configuration may be of any N=+1 number - the 4+1 or 8+1 RAID 5 configuration is only for Celerra.

Also, for information only (may be already known to you) - the RAID group that contains Celerra Data LUNs - may have other LUNs assigned to SAN Hosts. In other words, same RAID group may contain the Celerra Data LUNs as well as other SAN Host's LUN (except the RAID Group which contains the Celerra Boot or System LUNs - since the Celerra is already existing, I hope that RAID group is alll dedicated for Celerra - but the new RAID groups need not to be fully dedicated, if needed).

Great - so for FC Disks - you need to follow the Celerra supported RAID 5 configuration - either 4+1 RAID 5 or 8+1 RAID 5. You may consider RAID 6, if required, provided you are running supported NAS code (most likely 5.5.30 onwards with Flare 26 backend). Anyways, for Gateway systems -

1) Create two (or four if each LUN is exceeding 2TB with 2 LUNs) identical size LUNs on each RAID Group - each being owned by one SP.
2) Add them to the Celerra Storage Group and ensure the Host ID is set accordingly with the Storage group (HLU must be greater than 16).
3) Run Rescan on the Celerra Manager under Storage -> Systems.

Please refer to the following link which details all these.

Hope this helps,
Regards,
Sandip

Yes, I plan to create a RAID5 for the NAS. The NAS is an existing one, code is 5.5 and Flare is Release 26

Hi Zainal,

Just wondering whether I was able to provide you some helpful information in my earlier posts. Please feel free to revert back, if needed.
