sharedup

Hello Everyone,

I have a migration coming up where Windows Server's local file shares need to be copied to a CX4 LUN with the share permission intact. I have heard that sharedup is the tool to use to copy with the share permission intact. Issue is I cannot find the tool - emcopy is available, but not sharedup.exe. Could someone please direct me to where it's available.

I simply wanted to mention that PowerLink now also includes more than just EMCOPY for individual download.

Home > Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > Celerra Tools > Windows Migration Tools

You will now find the other common tools and should be able to rely on it having the latest:

  • EMCABE
  • EMCACL
  • EMCOPY
  • LGDUP
  • SHAREDUP

It's on the Celerra Tools and Apps CD. Go to PowerLink and search for: Celerra NAS Tools And Apps

Once you mount the ISO sharedup will be located in the cifstools directory.

Until we have a separate download for SHAREDUP and LGDUP as we have for EMCOPY (PowerLink breadcrumb trail noted below), for these applications which are not specific to the VNX or Celerra, I would recommend downloading the latest CIFSTools.zip which is v7.0.35-3.  Even though the numbering suggests they are VNX specific, these three utilities are an example where that is not the case, and if you were to compare, as of this writing, you would find that the CIFSTools.zip (v7.0.35-3) has a newer version of SHAREDUP than the Celerra Tools and Apps CD (v6.0.51-6).  You will find that this is always/often the case as it takes time for engineering to respin a new (400MB+) ISO vs (10MB) ZIP.

COMPARISON:

===========

1) Celerra Tools and Apps CD v6.0.51-6_apps.iso contains SHAREDUP v02.03

2) CIFSTools.zip v7.0.35-3 contains SHAREDUP v02.04

As for where to obtain CIFSTools.zip, it is available in two locations:

1) Available to everyone via support1.emc.com (for those in the pilot program it was: supportbeta.emc.com which now redirects)

a) Navigate to: https://support1.emc.com

b) Select "Downloads" in the blue banner menu

c) Enter your model such as NS-120 or VNX5500 (it will start filling in as you type)

d) From the results, search for "CIFSTools.zip" (NOTE: even if you select NS-120, CIFSTool.zip v7.0.35-3 returns in the list of results)

2) Available to partners from PowerLink via the "EMC Services Partner Web" portal (never was available from PowerLink itself for some reason)

On the other hand, I always look to PowerLink for the latest copy of EMCOPY via the following breadcrumb trail (but still compare to CIFSTools.zip to confirm):

Home > Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > Celerra Tools > Windows Migration Tools > EMCOPY

Also, review the following EMC KB article:

emc245596: "EMCOPY 4.0x shows multiple errors like 'Trying to DELETE due to copy ABORT' and 'DELETED due to copy ABORT'"

Talks about why you are receiving it and recommended best practice.

Also, you will see in v4.14 release notes the following enhancement:

[...]

        - Added enhancement of the recovery mechanism in case of brutal abort due to client or application

crashes or in case of long duration loss of network. Next copy in differential mode will detect

inconsistent files and redo the copy.
