Switch Compatibility query

Hi gentleman¿s

We have Clarion CX300 storage connected with two numbers of EMC SW3800/DS16B2 switches. The storage unit is going to finish 3 years now. Since Dell/Emc does not extend gold support on Switches and HBA¿s beyond 3 years in our region, we are purchased new DS-4200B, 32 port w/16 switch and preserved for an emergency replacement.

My Question is Can I replace EMC SW3800/DS16B2 with new DS-4200B, 32 port w/16 active?

These are McDATA switches; hence I hope there will not be any issues. However I would like to hear from you guys for my satisfaction
Cheers

Hi Steven

You can check the compatiblity of your new switch, HBA, CX300 etc from E-Lab Interoperability Nacigator in PowerLink.

BTW, can you confirm the switch model again as I don't aware there is a model called DS-4200B and you said that is a McData switch, as I know, the letter B at the end of the model number represents that is a Brocade while M represents McData.

Cheers

Hello,

After checking the compatibility, you can easily start migrating from a switch to another one at a time, as i understood, you have 2 switches for high availability. Follow the steps bellow:

1. Check from the PowerPath that each path between the hosts and the switch is working and healthy.
2. Start removing the fiber cables that are connected to ONE of the switches and connect them to the NEW switch.
3. Power up the new switch, and after a couple of minutes check if the link is up on the Power Path.
4. Go on with step 2 once again on the remaining switch and replace it with the new switch.
5. repeat step 3 to check the status of the links.

wish you all luck

Pls also check with the compatility of new switch firmware and you also need to setup the zoning configuration to new switch as well
