Unisphere Client problems and Java

I have been plagued with trying to run the Unishpere VNX Client ever since Java 7 has come out. We are now up to the latest Java 7.45

and I have tried the last three versions of the Windows Unisphere Client. I just installed the 1.3.0 version of the client and guess what, it still doesnt work. I do not have the time & patience to call it in & deal with a (lets try this or that from 1st level support) so I figure i will at least drop the problem out here so that maybe when it becasue a top hit on the web, EMC will take note and fix it.

This happens no matter the browser. It launches, i say (accept or Run or Allow ) to the Java Popup and it errors. When I click on the details of the error I get the below.

ava Plug-in 10.45.2.18

Using JRE version 1.7.0_45-b18 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM

User home directory = C:\Users\JoeM

r:   reload policy configuration

s:   dump system and deployment properties

t:   dump thread list

ANY HELP would be appreciated. And "no" i dont want to just go to the IP of the control station because that never got updated in all the FLARE updates. The client has newer better controls.

I am using a CX4 - NS480 EMC system.  Client is Windows 7 64bit. SP1

Incident # 64455982.....Well I am in the same boat and I hear the same argument why do we have to use an old version of Java !? I have been jacking with this all morning and just had to open an incident . I am in no mood to spend all day with tech support retelling the same story. I know I can fix it by using old software but that is a bad idea. I almost put my foot through the monitor when the latest USM1.3xx had a certificate error. Uncle..... I called support and I will post my fix and hopefully save someone else this pain. The celerra is a good platform but the support tools are old and lousy at best. May be time to look at another platform

Hello everybody. Here is the fix that works for me with the latest version of java 7u65. Uninstall both 32 and 64 bits versions. Re-install 64 bits first then 32. Once completed, go to start - java - configure java. Add the IP address of the VNX to the Exception Site List in the security tab. Check the "Use SSL 2.0 compatible clienthello format" in the advanced tab. This setting works for me in firefox. It also works for me in IE11 in compatibility mode.

Oracle has already provided workaround in:

https://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xml

Steps to Add URLs to the Exception Site list

  • Go to the Java Control Panel (On Windows Click Start and then Configure Java)
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click on the Edit Site List button
  • Click Add in the Exception Site List window

Had the same problem with 1.7 Update 51 all the settings were correct and it was working then it stopped. Clearing the java cache fixed the problem for me General Tab > Settings > Delete Files.

Niels,

I fully understand your desire to blame the issue on Java, and in general I agree since Java is the Devil's Spawn and perhaps the most hated programming language in existence.  That said, this can also be blamed on EMC for their failure to move to a programming language and/or program that is not reliant on Java.  This is even more so since EMC knows they are unable to keep up with the rapid pace that Oracle's Java requires to fix all the hack code and security flaws in it.  Again, look forward to EMC making an application that works in the future.

So, you test it, but do you actually make it work?  I mean I can test it and tell it does/does not work too.  Basically, the USM being on 32Bit Java and needing you to sacrifice two chickens, stand on one toe and cross all your hairs on your head to get it to work is a bit of a shoddy application.  I love EMC, and I can get USM working because I have had to modify my Java 3000+ times for various applications but this is a little too much for most people counting on using true enterprise class systems.

GREAT!  I am ready to be a Beta, Alpha, or Pre-Alpha tester!  Anything to kill Java good.

Thank you Wojciechm

Well that did the trick for me.

I was on  recommended Java installed (Version 8 Update 31) before I tried accessing the Unisphere (its been almost 2 years since I logged in). Whenever I tried accessing the GUI i was thrown the same error that Joey got.

I downgraded the Java to 7.51, still to find the same problem.

wojciechm s tip seems to be helpful as I am able to access the GUI without any Java error (however it took a lot of while for me to log in)

I added the IP in exception sites under security.
Pasting the screenshot below.

Now after successfully launching the Unisphere I ll try updating my Java back to 8.31 and will see how it responds.

I will post if it works for me or not.

Then EMC should not use a third party application.
