Dell Storage Manager does not work

Hello,

After Dell Storage Manager update to 20.1.2.14 function ''Configure this host to access a Storage Center" does not work. It establishing connection to server and nothing happens, manager window disappears.

Has anyone faced same problem?

Hello @dead kirill,

Yes, the first option is to use the client to connect to a Storage Center. Here you have the guide: Use the Storage Manager Client to Connect to a Storage Center - https://dell.to/3re8Eyt

Regards.

I'm having the same issue, but the indicated instruction to use DSM client ver 2019 to setup the host with best practices doesn't work because the version of DSM server is 2020. It gives an error saying so. I am using the VA version of the DSM server.
Do you have any further instructions?
Can you please link to the KB article for this known issue?

Figured out what works. Instead of connecting to the IP for my DSM virtual appliance, I set up the older v2019 DSM client to connect to the "Storage Center" (virtual management IP on the SAN). That allowed the host best practices to run.
I would still appreciate a link to the KB article for DSM-47484.
Thanks

Hello MNPSJake,

DSM-47484 is an internal article for us so that we can make the fix for the next release.

When is the next release going to be? I'm running into the same issue.

I tried the 2019 client and get an incompatible version warning.

Don't know if/when they'll release a fix for this.
You need to connect directly to your "Storage Center" (virtual management IP on the SAN itself).
You are most likely trying to connect to the IP for your Dell Storage Manager Server (either server app running on a server, or a virtual appliance).

Run the newer client somewhere else, and you can find your virtual IP here:

Hi,

we also had this problem, on a new location with new Storage the workaround to install old 2019 version and update later worked for us.

But now we had the problem on existing location with existing Data Collector 2020 that "Configure this host" was not working for a new host, the window does not appear and when i tried version 2019 i got the message that version is not compatible.
I also tried to connect to Virtual Management IPv4 address instead, this dies not solve the problem.

What worked for me:

On the new Server i just installed "Dell Storage Manager Data Collector 2020" first.
Then i have installed the Dell Storage Manager Client.
After installation start Client as Administrator and "Configure this host" is working again, as usual reboot Server after "Configure this host" is finished.
You can also uninstall Data collector later.

Best Regards
Chris
