Hi, One controller is stuck in Safe Mode because it cannot complete the startup. Please run the following command from the Safe Mode console: sub show
This will reveal which subsystem is preventing the controller from booting. Please send us the output so we can advise the next steps (Recovery Boot or force‑update). Thank you, Marco
Hi, Thank you for the screenshot. All subsystems show “Not Attempted”, which means the controller never starts the OS load process. This normally indicates a corrupted OS image or a version mismatch with the other controller. Next step: please reboot the controller and enter the Safe Mode menu, then select: Menu → Recover / Install OS image from peer controller If the recovery fails, we will need to perform a force‑update from Safe Mode. Please let me know the result. Thank you, Marco
Hi, Yes — it is possible to run the OS restore on only one controller. In Safe Mode, you can use: Menu → Recover / Install OS Image from Peer Controller This will reinstall the OS on the problematic controller using the healthy controller as the source. Please note: it is much better to write in English on the Dell Community, as English is the official support language and will help you receive faster and more accurate assistance. Let me know how it goes.
I have a second controller, and when I connect it via the COM port, nothing happens. It's as if the rear LEDs are faulty; they don't light up. Maybe I should download an image somewhere to reinstall it?
If the second controller shows no output on the COM port and the rear LEDs do not light up, this usually means the controller is not powering on at all. In this condition it is impossible to access Safe Mode or install an OS image.
Regarding your question: It is not possible to create a backup OS image from one controller and install it manually on the faulty one.
The SCv3020 OS can only be restored using the built‑in Safe Mode recovery, and this requires the controller to be at least partially functional.
To recover the controller, i t must allow the option “Recover / Install OS Image from Peer Controller” If the controller does not even start (no LEDs, no serial output), this indicates a hardware failure, and the unit will need replacement.
It is my understanding that the SCv3020 cannot be intentionally operated as a single‑controller array. It is designed and expected to run with both controllers installed and healthy.

I have a Dell SCV3020. Is it possible to make a backup image from it and load it onto the faulty one? Can you provide instructions on how to do this?

@DELL-Marco B Is it possible to make the SCV3020 work only on one controller or is there no such option?
