Connectivity Options available
What is the best way to connect 2 Sans together tht are about 800 metres apart, within the same physical building (hosptal) for the purposes of replication.
Have the following:
Site 1 has 2 Silkworm 24000 switches with a Clariion attached an a few hosts.
Site 2 has 2 Brocade 200E's again with a Clariion and some hosts attached.
I want to replicate from 1 Clariion to the other, and have a resilient network.
Each site has 2 fabrics configured, how many more should i configure ?
Should I buy any additional switches, Directors or just connect the existing switches together ?

make sure you buy some long wave (medium range if available) SFP's for your switches and of course single mode (9/125) cable.
I wonder whether or not we've now answered the question.....

I am the moderator for this forum and I notice you have not yet received a reply or answer to your question.
Unfortunately I do not have the technical information required to answer your question. I would advise you to log a Service Request with EMC thoru our PowerLink website, if this issue is urgent in order to get a more prompt response.
Kind regards,

I think if you can afford a direct connection between the switches that should be good enough. 2 resilient fabric would be enough .
You can set-aside some ports as ISL on both the switches , connect them together and you should be able to zone both the clariions .
Just make sure you change the port which you plan to use as E ports

Assuming you are not going to buy 800 meter patch cables (*lol*) any good fiber installer should know this anyway, but I just wanted to make sure since a lot of people who don't work with long distance (or FICON on the mainframe) aren't aware of single mode.

I'd forgotten about this - going back a couple of years - thanks all for your help and advise back then, the job went fine.
I've checked this post off as "answered".
