Connectrix vdx-6740b and new firmware (from Brocade) ?

hi everyone,

I have inherited a EMC vdx-6740b and I've started looking at, the firmware of course, checking if there is a newer version.

Latest firmware I can find is Network OS 6.0.2e which seems quite behind what I find at brocade/extremenetworks sites and I wonder if..

a) has EMC neglected this product a bit and if yes then why? It's not that old technology, right?

b) if we get firmwares from brocade/extremenetworks then would it all work?

c) how different vdx-6740b is from "regular" vdx-6740 ?

many thanks,

P

Hi P,

That is correct that is the latest firmware DELL EMC went GA with.

On your questions:

a) has EMC neglected this product a bit and if yes then why? It's not that old technology, right?

ED: Not sure what makes you say that, I suggest you contact your DELL EMC local team to get more inside on any doubts.

b) if we get firmwares from brocade/extremenetworks then would it all work?

ED: This would suggest that there is something broke, suggest to open a SR with DELL EMC support then, to see if the issue is fixed in a newer version of NOS. If not then no need to upgrade, If yes, then you should be able to upgrade, after an approval of an RPQ, which your locla team can submit to engineering to get support for the NOS.

c) how different vdx-6740b is from "regular" vdx-6740 ?

ED: There might be a difference in offered features, and SFP's but for the hardware of the VDX itself, I don't expect any difference. You can download the hardware manual from the same site you found the NOS, that should show you what the VDX-6740B, should have.

Ed
