ISL between McData/4800 and 4900

I have two networks of fiber switches that are located in the same datacenter but not connected together and I need to ISL both of them together and having some issues.
Environment description:

Fiber Network 1 ¿ All 2 GB links
Domain ID 1: Switch Name: sw1 (McData DS24M2), Domain ID 3 : Switch Name is : sw3(4800)
sw1 and sw3 are ISL-ed together.
Domain ID 2 : Switch Name: sw2 (McData DS24M2), Domain ID 2 : Switch Name: sw4(4800) .
sw2 and sw4 are ISL-ed together.
Fiber Network 2 ¿ All 4GB links
I have another Fiber switch network that is not connected to the above fiber network.
Domain Name AD , ID 0: Names of switches are: sw1 , sw3,sw5,sw7,sw11 - All 4900
Effective Zone Configurations: Fabric1
Domain Name AD , ID 0: Names of switches are: sw2 , sw4,sw6,sw8,sw12 - All 4900
Effective Zone Configurations: Fabric2
Now I want to ISL the following ports:
- One port on sw3 on Domain ID 3 to one port on sw11 on Domain AD ID 0 where the effective Zone Configurations: Fabric1.

- One port on sw4 on Domain ID 4 to one port on sw12 on Domain AD ID 0 where the effective Zone Configurations: Fabric2.
I connected one port on sw3 to another port on sw11 and one port on sw4 to a port on sw12.
From sw11/sw12, i see error on the ports connected to sw3/sw4: segmented-incompatible.
Any idea how to go about connecting and configuring this ISL connection.. The other thing is that sw1/sw2/sw3/sw4 names are being used on both SAN networks and once I ISL both networks together, how switches with the same name are going to show there.

are sw2 and sw4 switches really use the same domain id 2 ? As far as i know you have to have unique domain id to ISL two switches together.

I was hoping that was a typo on his part. If it isn't then we have bigger problems to figure out :-)

Welcome to the Forums SANTechie (although it looks like you've been lurking around for a while *lol*)

OK, let's take the questions one at a time... some additional info is also required to get this completely answered.

* Can you provide more detail on the 4800 switches you refer to in the first two fabrics? I'm not sure if this is a typo or not. Are these Brocade 48000 Directors?
* So, for the fabrics with the McData switches the domain ID matches the "name" of the switch (domain ID 1 is "sw1") correct?
* While we are still with the McData switches, what mode are these two fabrics in? (McData Native or Open)

You haven't listed the Domain IDs for the Brocade 4900s so I'm not sure if you followed the same standard of naming using the Domain ID. Can you confirm?
* If the domain IDs are the same as IDs on the other fabric you are trying to ISL in, then that is at least part of your problem. You can't have two switches with the same Domain ID in the same fabric. Something will have to change before you can merge the fabrics
* What mode are the fabrics of 4900s running? (Native Brocade or Open) I suspect they are running in Brocade Native mode which is another problem. They will have to be in either Open or McData Native (Interop mode 3 or 2 respectively) to ISL to the other fabrics.

Now, a couple of things to consider.
* If you have to change the domain ID of some of your existing switches you have to take them offline to do it. This is obviously disruptive.
* If you have to change the Interop mode on the 4900 fabrics it is even more disruptive. Not only will it wipe the entire config from each switch when you do it, but running in anything other than Native Brocade fabric mode will limit some of the feature you have available. If you rely on any of those feature you may have more problems. Just be prepared to reconfigure your switches from the ground up once you change the mode (including the zoning database unless I'm mistaken)

So, possibly lots of research to do before you can accomplish this, and lot's of planning no matter what.
