Where can I find the latest Fw for a ED48000B director switch and can I go their directly or do I have to go from one rev to another?

Hello!

The firmware location:
If you are partner, go to Powerlink:

Support -> Emc Service Partner Web Access -> click

Then Software -> Select software type Connectrix software

You can download. I think some readme file attached, which tell you
the upgrade steps.

Hi Gilberto,

If you are unable to get the FW, idealy you should raise an SR with the support, for FW upgrade. Usually a Site Engg. (CE) is assigned the task, he has access to all FWs and goes onsite to do the upgrade.

Yes there are restrictions for going from one FW version to another, you may have to upgrade in steps i.e. upgrade to intermediate version before you may reach the latest version of FW, however this depends on your current FW veriosn and the version you want to upgrade to.

Hello,

Depending on whether or not you're a customer or partner will determine if and where the switch firmware is available.   For Partners it is available on Partnerweb.     Customers have two different levels of Support, Premium and Enhanced.   Under Premium Support, EMC manages and installs all switch firmware upgrades for the customers.   This includes checking the SAN environment for known issues to avoid possible upgrade issues.    Firmware isn't directly available to Premium Support customers.   There is a process in place where a Premium Support customer can request the code directly for doing their own upgrades but it isn't recommended as you loose the all the preventive checks and become responsible if anything happens on the upgrades.   Enhanced Support customers are responsible for FRU replacement, firmware upgrades, etc.   Firmware is available to them via Powerlink.   No checks are done and customers are responsible for any issues that happen during upgrades.

Thank you.

Please reference the article below which discusses the firmware upgrade procedure for EMC connectivity supported switches.

What is the process for customers to upgrade their EMC supported Connectrix switch's firmware?

If you use primus reference emc230703.

If you go down the route of upgrading the firmware yourself a helpful tool is the procedure generator which can be downloaded and assists with the firmware upgrade steps. It let's you know what steps you have to follow to reach your target firmware level.

Hi gilberto,

I would definitely follow conor.a.mcmahon and the other's advice already given here about which specific firmware versions to use and where/how you should obtain it.  The following is just a brief overview and you should follow the EMC documentation for the details.  The ED48000B or Brocade 48000 was released with FOS v5.0.1.  Back then it was supported to upgrade two FOS release levels at a time.  However, this was changed with FOS v6.0.0 where only one-step upgrades were allowed.  In other words, to get to FOS v6.0.0, you had to be on FOS v5.3.x.  Finally, the last supported release for the Brocade 48000 was FOS v6.4.3.
