Procedure for replacing 4 switches

Hello

We currently have 2 fabrics, each one consists of two 32 port and two 16 port Brocade switches. We want to replace the 16 port core switches with new 32 port Brocade 5000 switches.

Does anyone have or can show me where I can find documentation which shows the correct procedure for replacing the switches?

I just don't want to miss a step and mess things up.

Thanks

"so when you re-created new device with major/minor numbers of the old ctd device ..did you do it on the fly , without taking the cluster down"

yes, it is done line (it is just the mknod command) . In our case also it was a switch migration.

The FCID doesn't change if I'm correct

it will if the ports are changed on same switch also

HPUX LVM trusts /etc/lvmtab .. that contains CTD .. If CTD changes, /etc/lvmtab still points to old CTD and new CTD will never be recognized as being part of your existing VGs. ..

If you planned the overall process you can vgreduce the vgs before moving the switches around and ioscan/insf/vgextend them when you reached final configuration ..

If you plannned the overall proces but don't want to reduce your paths you can export and import the VGs.

If you didn't plan the process and your fabrics changed somehow, you have a VG with a single leg. Now you can only work on the ioconfig (as per my previous suggestions) ..

Cheers :D

you can regenerate the /etc/lvmtab(keep a backup) with vgscan which will pick up the new paths/legs.

Santhosh you are right, vgscan is always an option. However I had problems in the past so I prefer to avoid it .. YMMV :D
