Update: Dell has cancelled my 4th order. Their reason is "problem with processing" I call *** on this over the fact that I was on the phone the whole day today, and I was told multiple times that there was no problem with my order. Now i'm with a $8,000 charge on 4 cancelled orders. Called dell one last time, and they told me order again. I'm not sure if the reps are simply that clueless.
I have had a nightmare as well trying to order an alienware and dell does not seam to care in the least. It has been over 2 months now they made me cancel and remake my order twice, the last order i placed on the 8th of last month. So over a month later and my order still says confirmed, dell still has my money, and i have some jack *** contacting me telling me i need to cancel and reorder again. Absolutely unacceptable. I have paid a lot of money for an upgraded Alienware 17 2 months ago and still have no computer. It has literally been a running joke about if i ever do receive a computer. The first time i ordered i used a credit card and they charged it 3 times luckily my bank didnt let it through. Who would have thought that a big company like dell would treat so many people like this. My "estimated delivery time" keeps getting pushed back a week at a time with no explanation at all. If it is a part shortage then they need to give me the next best thing and ship the *** computer.
Apologies for your ordering experience. Dell does reserve the right to cancel orders for parts shortage reasons, as is explained on the ordering page. The customer's card is not actually charged until the order ships, so the funds were basically on hold during the ordering process and once cancelled, the funds will be released in 24 to 48 hours.
3 orders were cancelled the 5th, and the last was cancelled, yesterday. I have a noverdraft balance of over $8,000, no computer, and an angry wife scolding me for this whole ordeal. It's been way over 48 since the first 3 orders were cancelled. As of 1/10/17 I have a total of $8,117.03 due to 4 cancelled orders.
You should contact your bank as Robert said, Dell doesn't actually charge your card until it ships. All you are seeing is a standard 'ping' to make sure the funds are available for when they do charge your card.
This makes me worry as I have placed and order on the 7th and they have told me that it is on hold because of a parts shortage (specifically the 850W Power supply) They have told me to wait three days and they are supposed to have it in, but I am not left feeling very confident. I am going to wait the three days and cancel if nothing happens.
Update: Contacted the bank. I managed to get the fees off by paying most of the overcharge with my credit card. The bank told me to contact the merchant, and tell them to contact them to revoke the authorization. I have done this twice. Despite the fact that they have pledge to remove the authorization within 24-48 hours they have not done so. The bank told me i could simply wait out the authorization period which last 5 business days. At that point the bank will reject the orders for lack of funds. All 3 orders were cancelled the 5th and 1 the 6th. Here I am on the 11th with a overcharge of 8,000 from 4 cancelled orders.
Last update: A dell representative contacted me yesterday 1/11. He apologized for the ordeal, and took the purchase ID for al cancelled 4 orders. Today the first two holds were removed, and the next two will be removed tomorrow.
Dell issues aside, you might want to look into getting a different bank. The 'hold' is just that, a hold and not actual money being spent. for your bank to charge you an NSF fee for what amounts to nothing is rather stupid.
I have had the same problem in UK I have ordered three seperate Alienware Area 51 Intel versions and two have been cancelled so far. Just waiting for third one to be cancelled. Surely you should not be taking any orders. Your customer service is shocking. I have been without a computer for 2 months. All I get is Order cancelled after 2 weeks of hearing nothing.
I have purchased 3 XPS computers from Dell and I am now questioning why I am so loyal.
