Can't cancel a twice delayed order.
I have been a dell customer for over a decade. I recently ordered a monitor from dell. I followed the shipping date, which first was early July to be delivered by the seventh.
Between the time I ordered the monitor and the expected delivery date, I moved to a new address. No longer living at the shipping address, I went to my order to change the address only to find out, that was not an option. I contacted dell directly.
And instead of trying to ensure my monitor went to the right address, I find out that dell will not be able to honor their delivery date. I understand the dates are estimates, however, in talking to the agent, it seemed that dell knew that they were not going to be able to fulfill the order. (I received an email about the monitor being at end of life, whatever that means). The reason I could not cancel the order was because the product was in production. Which I understand. The issue is that, when I ordered the monitor, the status went directly to in production, which would have prevented me from cancelling the order at any time. Seems to me, to be an unfair practice and bad faith.
After finally getting to an agent, I spoke to a representative who was not helpful at all. At first, they tried to cancel the order. I found out I could not cancel the order, even though it seems they will not be able to fulfill the order. The representative tried to order a new/replacement device by providing a quote. I was not to order the new monitor until the previous order was cancelled. Which they knew they could not cancel.
After all this, I received an email with a new shipping and delivery date. I was encouraged to monitor the status of my order. I checked everyday for an update and on July 12th, today. No change. So I contacted dell and got the same song and dance. And after all this I just wanted to cancel my order. I could not, because it was "in production".
It has been in production since the day I ordered, and nobody can tell me why. Now they are passing the buck to a order support specialist. I fear that this specialist will not be able to do much either. Dell can only remedy this situation by producing my monitor by the date promised July 17, 2023 or cancel my order. I cannot move on to another vendor.
I feel due to dell not honoring my order or allowing me to cancel my order, I cannot move on to another purchase.
Dell will argue that I can still cancel my order, by waiting for delivery and take advantage of their return policy. I feel that this policy only prolongs my inability to purchase another monitor from different vendor. I first have to wait for shipment, receive the monitor, and return.
All the while, the funds that I may use to purchase a monitor from another vendor are held up in a monitor I may not receive for a month, two months or never. (The never point was hyperbole, but I hope you get my point.)
I purchased a new monitor because I need one, I went to dell, because I trusted (past tense) their products and service. Unfortunately, I am forbidden from purchasing a new monitor because of dell's inability to deliver on their promise or cancel my order, keeping me in limbo. I can't purchase two monitors, spending more money waiting for dell to make me whole.
My only recourse is to file a complaint with whatever state and/or federal agency that looks into issues such as these.

If you're in the US, Dell needs to obtain your approval to extend the wait period for the order. If you've not approved the delay, contact your credit card provider and request they file a dispute -- they'll credit your card and handle dealing with Dell.
