Military EXTRA10

I have purchased Dell often, through the web site or through the Exchange system. Dell products meet my expectations and are reasonably priced. There is one "tricky" situation that came up on my last order. I clicked on the special Military offer of receiving an "Extra" 10% off and received the code of EXTRA10, go figure, to be applied upon checkout.

Fast forward to the cart checkout. I was signed in as a "member". My P2216H monitor had a retail price of $229.99. Without entering another discount, the price dropped $30 to $199.99. The next line was an "Extra 5% Member savings on Dell electronics and accessories," dropping the price another $10 to $189.99. Next was the time to "Enter coupon number." Next to that was "Find Coupon" so I found a SAVETEN (10%) coupon. All this is done on the Dell web site, either automatically or by function buttons set up by Dell. I selected the SAVETEN coupon and it appeared in my cart as well only blank. Next, I entered the "EXTRA10," set up for military and veterans stating, "Saluting service members with 10% off. Now all members of the military community and veterans can save an additional 10% on Dell.com with this exclusive offer. Verify &Get Coupon." It showed up in the cart as well and like the SAVETEN, was blank.

Called customer service for clarification. Bottom line is anybody that can fog a mirror can received the 10% off so in actuality, the "Extra 10%" offered to military isn't possible. Even though it clearly states in BOLD lettering, "save an additional 10%" on Dell.com. They did basically allow me to substitute the 10% coupon for the 5% member savings effectively reducing the total cost by another 5% to approximately $180.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the consideration given to military veterans and from what I understand, highly deserving first responder and educators as well, but I find it clearly misleading to state, twice, "Extra" and "additional" and not actually apply to discount. I would venture to say that if you asked most veterans, first responders, educators, and other categories I may have missed why they served, it wouldn't be for the Dell discount.

I suggest they add the small print or remove the offer all together if it is available to anyone clicking the "Find Coupon" button. I certainly wouldn't ask for the discount if it wasn't offered.

Top of the morning!

Wow, maybe someone is paying attention even though they won't answer my forum post. I can't seem to locate the military EXTRA10 coupon. It seems as if it is available to everyone now, with conditions. It seems as if they owned it and took my recommendation. Well done.

I was mistaken. Didn't show up on my iPad with the mobile site. Dell still suggests that military members receive an "EXTRA10" (10%) off their order after registering at an external site and receiving the "special code." Don't waste your time, just go to "find coupon" and get the 10% off that way as every person in the U.S. can. Military, firefighters, educators, etc. get the same discount as every customer of Dell regardless if Dell suggests they recognize their service, they may they just don't put their money where their mouth is, literally. Disappointing.
