Order Fulfillment is Broken

This issues comes up again and again in these forums and online. It's really a joke...I just wish I had looked it up before dealing with Dell directly. There are plenty of ways to buy a computer and have your order fulfilled in a timely fashion. I ordered a laptop during a sale about a week ago and was led to believe the order would be fulfilled in 3-4 business days. As many people have experienced, this was magically changed to being fulfilled in 21 days. I've requested the order be cancelled and have been told it will be shipped (in about 10 days from now) and that a process to return the order can start then. I remember when Dell people thought of themselves as production and ordering geniuses...maybe they still do and this is the problem. What kind of system is built without the ability to stop a process six days in when there are 11 days remaining? What kind of system doesn't reach out to you and let you know there will be massive delay and ask if you'd like to cancel the order. Really...this...and Dell are a bad joke. Sadly...the joke appears to be on me. Don't order from Dell!!!

I'm having the same problem.  When I call the automated system says my computer has been shipped and it sends me tracking info that says it will be delivered today.  Then towards the end of the day it changes and says delivery is now pending.  Very frustrating.

As so many other posts suggest, Dell reached out to me directly. To summarize their response, my order is "in process" and "might" be fulfilled in 6 more days instead of in 14 days. They made certain, though, to emphasize that they weren't promising this new date as things may still get in the way of this dramatically late fulfillment date. Don't expect them to be understanding. Don't expect them to deal with you straight. Don't expect them to cancel the order. Don't expect them to even come close to demonstrating recognition that anything is strange about their system. If this is any indication, this company is actually broken and rotting out.
