UPS: Clearance Information Required

Hello,

I have recently ordered a new Dell XPS 13. It is shipped from Kunshan. I got my tracking number and when checking today, I noticed a status change on my shipment that got me worried. The UPS page says: "Power of attorney documentation is missing and is required for clearance. We're working to obtain this information." Will this somehow delay my shipment? Do I need to take any steps???

I got mine today! 2 days delay by UPS, but still within the time frame provided by Dell. In retrospect, I think more clearer communication from Dell or a little shipping FAQ could be very helpful. They were quick assembling and shipping my laptop - took less than 48 hours - so I'm happy with that. But explaining the whole shipping process in a little FAQ could help the customer like me with having less stress about delivery delays, especially when I really really needed a new laptop. I understand this is all UPS's doing, but hey Dell, it's your business partner to whom you outsource the shipping process.

Same issue here!  How long did it delay things?  Did you get your laptop yet?

Same exact situation for me. Dell customer service was useless in answering my question. Hope it shows up on time. Will likely be the one and only time I order anything from Dell.

Unfortunately, same issue for me.  Chat unavailable, customer support unavailable via phone despite it being during normal operating hours (?)  Concerned about the open-ended status.

Thanks for the update, @Paul_Ch.  Much appreciated.  Not impressed with Dell's customer support thus far.

Just to give everyone an update, I was contacted by customer support and a case number was created. I was told at this point to allow 2-3 days to clear customs.

I wouldn't normally be concerned about 2-3 days in customs, but the UPS status still says they need clearance information. I am not sure if they can clear my package without it and Dell did not tell me what is the underlying reason for such notice and if they are doing anything about it. I will try to post an update once I learn more.

It’s same thing happening on my order. I have checked today but it still in  “Clearance Information Required”, Dell customer service just told me I don’t need to do anything just waiting for carrier. Hopefully can be solved soon

While I did not get any further reply from Dell, my UPS status changed. First, there was an added note that "Brokerage released the package. It will be processed through a clearing agency before final release to UPS", and the location was Louisville. Then I got the same status but for Shanghai. And this morning new status: "export scan" in Shanghai. The overall status of my package is "In transit: on time" and the scheduled delivery date is Tuesday, May 26. So, it looks like there is no delay and my package will come on time. Hopefully, this will also be the case will your packages.

I'm not sure if Dell had anything to do with the previous status of the package (as in, the missing info part), perhaps it has all to do with UPS, but it would be nice if Dell could provide more information -- especially that it's clearly not a one off incident.

I have checked my status but it is still getting stuck. I’m not really sure if I would receive the laptop on time. Hopefully I can because I need a laptop to do my works

Did any of you receive a "Clearance in Progress" step in the process? Mine shows as now in Shanghai - and has had that status for almost a day.

Fingers crossed!

As expected, mine continues to be delayed, now slipping from Tuesday to Wednesday.  Last scan also in Shanghai and won't be surprised if the delay extends further.  Dell has dropped the ball with customs on this shipment and we're the unlucky beneficiaries.

My package is finally on the move. Departed Shanghai today, went through Incheon and on its way, probably to Anchorage now and then Louisville. UPS updated delivery day to tomorrow. If no delay at US customs, seems doable. That would still put the package within the time frame given to me by Dell when I made my order: May 26-29.

I read somewhere that generally there are delays in shipping out of China because of hugely increased demand for air cargo coupled with reduction in passenger flights (which carry cargo as well). Anyhow, hope your packages will depart Shanghai soon.

Delayed again passing through customs.  Status is now 'cleared customs' and in transit, but no location scan.  Second consecutive day that the scheduled delivery date has been pushed back by UPS.

Same here. @tarheel13 , are you in North Carolina as well? There is only one UPS flight a day from Louisville to RDU and it leaves very early in the morning. I actually found on the UPS website some info about corona delays: https://www.ups.com/cn/en/service-alerts.page?id=alert3 (see alert 2/3). China to US - delay of 2+ days expected. Sounds about right...

I'm an expat living in Atlanta.  Tracking this order has been an unnecessary adventure.
