Venue Pro 8 order delay
I ordered my Venue 8 Pro 64gb tablet on Oct 24 on line with an expected delivery date of Nov 18th on my order. This same date was published on Dell's web site along with all the specs in the order detail section. I thought at the time that over 3 weeks for delivery was not fast but I can live with it. I got an email after Nov 18th from Dell basically saying they don't have my tablet and they don't even know when they will have it, but they will let me know when its available for me and then it will take 4 to 12 days to send it out to me after its available - this email really said nothing of substance other than some standard PR words. I am sure for a customer, we just wanted to know when! I went on Dell's chat line to ask an agent for more information but got no more info than their standard issued lines for their staff to say to their customers - again all words and said nothing. I decided to call a real person using their 1-800 number but got someone in mid west who couldn't even find my order with all my info given to her. I just wanted to know if it will take one week, two weeks or two months! Surely, a company like Dell would have some smart people working to ensure that the delivery date published on their order web site would match their inventory availability or are they trying to mislead customers into buying and then not cancelling their order even if they make these customers wait indefinitely. In any case, I think the Dell management has some serious problems, if this is how they run their business. Its no wonder Dell is no longer the go to PC shop like it used to be. I have decided to cancel my order and wait for other 8in Window 8 tablets from other companies (there are at least 2 others already available now). In the tech world, 2 months is a long time and I am sure I will get better products at a cheaper price for the time I have to wait for Dell to delivery. I had a very expensive notebook from Dell that only lasted just after the warranty and with this experience, this is my last time dealing with Dell for sure.

I know exactly how you feel cause I too was supposed to take delivery on Nov 18th and on the 19th I got an email telling me it is delayed. Yesterday I got fed up and called them they informed me it would be delivered on or before the 26th Nov then first thing this afternoon another email telling me it's delayed again. I'm tired of waiting so I'm going over to Staples and buy a Samsung or anything else besides a Dell I see there are a couple of eight inch tablets that are out with Windows 8 on them so I'm going to look at them first thing tomorrow morning. I left them an email to cancel the order, I'm tired of doing the waiting game, it's not a way to run a company now days. If they can't deliver someone else will and they'll do it cheaper too.

You are right. I think Dell's management thinks that giving priority to Walmart and Costco is better for their business. What these new business school grads have not learned is that over time, it is little customers like you and me who tell their friends our experiences with Dell that will do the company in eventually. Once the company's rep is damaged, it will take a long time to rebuild, if ever... They just lost 2 of us and count the multiplier effect... Dell management - hope you are listening.... but too late for us.
