Uninstalling Dell Data Protection Encryption to upgrade windows 10

Hi

Whenever I try to update windows 10 I get an error message telling me to manually uninstall Dell Data Protection Encryption And to contact support to do so.

I don't have the uninstallation program for some reason and don't want to randomly start uninstalling all my dell software on my laptop.

I don't use the encryption at all

Please Help

When I used the uninstaller, (version 11.0.0.1) it seems t have removed items in the wrong order.  It gets to:

Uninstalling Dell Data Protection | Client Security Framework v8.12.0.22,

and then a message:

Advanced Threat Protection is dependent on Security Tools (EMAgent). Uninstall Advanced Threat Protection, then retry the uninstall.

However,  none of the methods in the KB pages are possible because the uninstaller seems to have removed everything the KB pages reference to use.  It is like an infinite loop.  How do I get it cleaned up so Windows will update?  Thanks.

Hi @IURay

For what you are seeing, and with the age of the applications that look to be on the system, I would highly suggest to open a ticket with the support teams. We have various repair scripts that we can apply to the device that should allow for us to get into a good state. These scripts require a bit of foreknowledge of the environment, and an understanding of each piece that is installed on the system, working through these through the forum may not be the quickest way to get you resolved.

You can reach our teams through phone through the numbers at https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/00012537, if you are within the US, we have chat support available as well: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000129455, tickets can always be opened through techdirect at https://techdirect.dell.com.

I apologize that we were not able to get you resolved on this thread. If you have any issues with forward momentum, please Direct Message me, and we can engage to get you going.

Thanks Dale,

I was a little hardheaded.  I was able to turn it into a z*om*bi*e (why is the previous word "forbidden?").  It is still here, and I think I can feel a small drag now, but Win Doze 10 no longer sees it and let me install a driver which can see 802.11ax.  That was my driving need.  Thanks again.

Thank you for the update @IURay

I'm assuming that we have to have certain words listed out to avoid any specific apocalyptic scenarios being attributed to our forums

Let us know if anything pops up!

Have an awesome day!

I would also like the link to do this.  I got a new computer at work and the new one does not have the Dell data encryption software on it.  I have several hard drives that have the software on it and I can't use the data on the hard drive now.  I need to remove the encryption software from the hard drive without destroying the data on the drives.  Thank you.

Hello @sosa2324

Removing Dell Encryption can be complicated if there is encrypted data on your computer.  If needed I've included the support number where you can get live assistance on how to remove Dell Encryption. On the Dell Encryption Drivers and Download page you can download the Dell Data Security Uninstaller which will help you remove Dell Encryption.  However as stated above if there is encrypted data on your machine you will need to provide the key bundle for your encrypted data.  This would have been saved by you during setup or could be managed by your company.  This is where support can really be a benefit in helping identify if you do have encrypted data or if its safe to just remove Dell Encryption so you can upgrade your PC.

Here is the uninstall guide for Dell Encryption: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/dell-data-protection-encryption/enterpriseeditionadvig/uninstall-using-the-child-installers?guid=guid-9f524c7b-370d-4afa-a2c6-c49eedbe2e25&lang=en-us

The uninstall guide for Personal Edition can be found here: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/dell-data-protection-encryption/persedig/uninstall-using-the-child-installers?guid=guid-adcd36ef-547d-4df8-b352-962902120bae&lang=en-us

If you need further assistance, it will be best to contact Dell Support at 877-459-7304 ext 6236710 as it can be difficult to troubleshoot on the Dell Security Forum.https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000125374/dell-data-security-international-support-phone-numbers
