After omsa push, server doesn't move to server Catagory
Hello
I have managed to sucessfully push out the omsa client to a computer that was previosuly listed under the unknown cat. Unfourtunately the server is staying put in the unknown cat.
I have tried deleting device, re-discovering, restart server that just had omsa installed on it, and refreshing statuses etc. I can't seem to get the computer to jump to the correct Cat, so that i can finaly start seeing machine specific info. The only change i saw was the connection status is now Blue(on) vs grey.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Thanks for this detail.
Yeah, so the troubleshoot results are key. If you can't connect to your box reliable via SNMP, then OME won't be able to either.
Often, it can be a simple mis-spelling or case sensitive issue when typing in the SNMP community string.
Can you confirm?
Also, section 3.5 or 3.6 of the OME FAQ (on www.delltechcenter.com/ome) has some tips.

Oh yeah, when i use the trouble shooting tool, i get error:
"The SNMP read request has failed for Get Community name "
The name used is the correct one setup in services-snmp....hmmmm

For the SNMP community settings, must i do/setup these settings on all the computers, or just the one Server running OME?

Right, so if you are using SNMP to manage your servers, you need to enable SNMP on all of your managed nodes, not the OME server itself. Once you do this, you can try the Dell Troubleshooting tool to confirm SNMP connectivity.
The tutorial section in the OME gui has a first time setup page that might help. Also www.delltechcenter.com/ome has a tool for SNMP settings under the Download section that might help in some cases. Also whitepapers on this page may help.
Thanks!

Got it. Used wmi vs snmp, as snmp wasn't installed on all the servers.
thanks for your help.
