Discovery/Inventory through a Cisco ASA

Hey all,

I am trying to discover a ESXi 5.1 server on a PowerEdge R720, unfortunately there is a Cisco ASA between us. I have created a NAT statement in the ASA giving the server a public IP address of it's own and allowing all access to it in an access list from my Open Manage server address. However, when the discovery and inventory runs it does not detect any devices. Any suggestions?

Hi and thanks for the question.

You can use troubleshooting tool WS-MAN test and make the necessary changes to get the network connectivity working. Once the test passes, you can try running discovery/inventory from OME.

The tool is installed on the OME desktop and is pretty handy.  Let me know if that helps.

Thanks,

Rob

Thank you, I was able to determine an issue using WS-Man.

I found that my host was not responding to ICMP because it's iSCSI network IP was the default gateway of the host, I resolved this issue by changing my NAT translation to the iSCSI network address instead.

Now a second issue that I have, I was only testing using a 1-to-1 NAT translation, I now need to lock it down by port. Is there a listing of what ports need to be open anywhere for WS-MAN?

Hi,

I think this is in Table 8 of the user guide (either on the online OME help or from the www.delltechcenter.com/ome link).

thx

Rob
